Directed by Hou Liang, the youth hilarious comedy starring Chen He, Yao Xingtong, Chang Yuan, Zhang Songwen and others will be released in major cinemas across the country on August 6. The movie "All the Way Forward" is adapted from the popular youth novel "Graduation Year" and tells a hilarious and touching story: Cainiao Newton (played by Chen He), who has just graduated from college for a year, has a crush on the office Muse Yao Yao (played by Yao Xingtong), but he is afraid to pursue it because Yao Yao has "a famous flower". At the same time, the young people in the unit suddenly get a great opportunity: the department will send a young man to work in New York.
So Newton and his beloved Yao Yao became competitors again. The best friend Carnegie (played by Chang Yuan) came to help, wanting to make Newton’s love and career both prosperous, but in the end, the scene was like a runaway horse, and it got out of hand. The sullen boss, Dr. Li (played by Zhang Songwen), and the enchanting sycophant Jiao Bin (played by Lu Haitao) continued to make trouble in the open and secret, making Newton confused and even bloody in the workplace… In the end, could Newton have a double harvest in love and career?
According to director Hou Liang, Chen He has already surpassed the simple "acting cute" in his acting skills. In "All the Way Forward", Chen He portrays a cute, kind, and even childish little character to be vivid and three points into the wood; in terms of drama, emotion, and even occasionally the darkness of the little character in a desperate situation – I believe the audience will see a different Chen He in Cainiao Newton in the workplace, as well as his own shadow in work and life.
In order to truly restore the state of the little people in the workplace, the director Hou Liang used the "sports long shot" shooting method in several major scenes, with one shot taking two or three minutes at a time. This shooting method tests the acting skills of the actors the most – the actors not only need to accurately complete their performances, but also need to coordinate with the complex movements of the camera. Even if there is a one-second error, the camera must be re-shot.
There is a scene in the film that takes place at Newton’s house. It is about Newton bringing his colleague Yao Yao to his house as a guest, but he coincidentally encounters Carnegie with a strange girl, and then his colleague Jiao Bin also gets involved. The final scene is a mess, and Newton is very embarrassed in front of his beloved Yao Yao. The camera follows the actor’s position – first from Jiao Bin on the first floor to Newton and Yao Yao on the second floor (Newton’s house is a simple duplex structure), and then follows Newton to the first floor; then Carnegie comes in through the door, and the camera follows Carnegie to the second floor. When Carnegie is making out with a strange girl here, Newton goes upstairs… After all the actors’ performances are completed, the camera pulls out from the window to see the whole room.
Director Hou Liang said that the focus of this scene was on Chen He’s role as Newton. There were seven shots in total during the actual shooting, and Chen He performed well in any one – the problem was caused by other reasons. This made the creators and staff surprised and even admired Chen He’s acting skills. The long motion shot was later cut out for censorship reasons, and the middle part was turned into two shots. Even so, the audience can still appreciate the wonderful performance of Chen He and other stars.
